Hello, world!

Tue, Sep 26, 2023

There is perhaps no better way to start a blog than with this tried and true greeting.

Since there's already a page for it, I'll skip the who and move on to the why: in simple terms, I went to Laracon US in Nashville earlier this year, and, like many others, was inspired by Aaron Francis' excellent talk to start putting my own work out there a bit more. I've been content with the daily grind of life as a developer, but I'd like to start getting involved in the community.

That said, I don't have a lot to share at the outset because everything I've worked on since 2020 has been proprietary. That is to say, it's owned by my employer, so I can't share the source code. I'd like to publish some open source projects, but since Rome wasn't built in a day, I have this blog as a platform on which I can share ideas and snippets as I work toward that goal.

I'm always learning new things and love to dig obscure things out of places like the PHP manual, MDN, or the blogs of all-time greats such as Martin Fowler. I'm also frequently inspired by new and interesting patterns I stumble upon, and would like to share what has worked for me and inspires me.

The majority of posts will therefore be oriented toward discussion of code and architecture, but I love technology in all its facets, so there are likely to be occasional articles that veer away from this primary orientation. That said, my intention is that these, too, will be useful to developers.

If you're reading at a time before I've decided on an implementation of a comments system, I hope you'll extend me some patience. I'm not using a CMS for this site, nor anything like Disqus, so the comments feature will also be something I'll be writing from scratch (more on the rationale behind this decision in future posts). Since this must be approached carefully, I've not treated it as an immediate priority, in favor of pushing a healthy backlog of posts into the ether.

Thanks for reading. I hope you'll enjoy going on this journey with me!
